DIY Gold Rimmed Bowl

Gold is de rigour in home decor for this season. You will find gilded vases, mirrors, pillows, candlesticks, table setting etc. In today’s tutorial I will show you how to get the look using a dollar store purchased glass bowl and spray paint. This is an easy craft that takes 20 minutes from start to finish but will add a whole lot of impact.

You will need:

A glass bowl

Masking or painters tape

Newspaper

Gold spray paint

Glitter spray paint (optional)

Large cardboard box (optional)

glass bowl supplies

1) Using your tape, cover any area you do not want painted. For demonstration purposes, I used 2 colors of tape to show you where I marked my bowl off. Since I wanted the top of the rim painted as well, I used he green tape to tape off the INSIDE of the bowl. The white masking tape I used on the outside. The area that will wind up being painted will be above the white masking tape on the outside of the bowl.

2) You can either tape the entire inside of the bowl as well, but I used newspaper to fill most of the area as it is faster and easier to do. I then used some tape to hold the newspaper in place.

3) Now for the fun part. Let’s get spraying! Although some spray paints will state it is ok for indoor use, I still prefer to paint outside. I am lucky that I have a screened in porch so wind is not a huge factor. However if you are doing it outside try to pick days where there is little wind. I also propped up a cardboard box to contain the paint, and that should also help shelter you from the wind.

4) Holding the paint can 12-18 inches away, spray a light even coat. It is better to do several thin coats that to try and get 1 good thick coat in. The paint dried quickly enough so it’s a matter of waiting 5 minutes between coats. I did a total of 3 coats of gold, then 2 light coats of glitter spray.

5) Once dried peel off the tape carefully. There you have it! A gorgeous and trendy decorative bowl for under $3.
